The optical construction has been optimized for the shorter flange distance found on mirrorless cameras and consists of 22 lens elements in 16 groups. A series of specialized lens elements including one Low Dispersion (FLD) and four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements suppress chromatic aberrations, and color fringing and ensure high clarity and color accuracy across the whole zoom range.
With a perfect range for moderate sports and action photography, the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary Lens has fast, near-silent autofocus thanks to its stepping AF motor optimized for both phase-detect and contrast-based autofocus. The lens' optical stabilization unit compensates for up to four stops to reduce the effects of camera shake for sharper handheld photos.
