Canon EF 50mm F1.2 L USM Lens

Product description

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM is a full-frame standard prime lens designed for Canon EF-mount cameras. It features a bright f/1.2 maximum aperture, 50mm focal length and ring-type ultrasonic autofocus motor.

The lens is suitable for portrait, everyday and low-light photography where control over depth of field is important. Its optical design incorporates eight elements in six groups, while an eight-blade aperture diaphragm helps provide smooth out-of-focus rendering. Canon's Super Spectra coating is used to help reduce flare and ghosting and maintain contrast and colour balance.

50mm prime focal length

The 50mm focal length provides a standard perspective on full-frame Canon cameras. When used on compatible APS-C cameras, the field of view is narrower and provides an equivalent focal length of approximately 80mm.

F1.2 maximum aperture

The large f/1.2 maximum aperture provides extensive control over depth of field and allows more light to reach the sensor. It can be used for selective-focus photography and low-light shooting.

Optical construction

The lens uses eight optical elements arranged in six groups. Its optical design includes an aspherical element to help control optical aberrations.

Super Spectra coating

Canon's Super Spectra coating helps reduce flare and ghosting while supporting consistent contrast and colour reproduction when shooting in challenging lighting conditions.

Ultrasonic autofocus

The lens uses a ring-type ultrasonic motor for autofocus. Full-time manual focus override is available, allowing manual focus adjustment while the lens remains in autofocus mode.

Eight blade aperture

The eight-blade diaphragm is designed to provide a rounded aperture shape that contributes to smooth out-of-focus rendering when using shallow depth of field.

Full frame compatibility

The EF 50mm f/1.2L USM is designed for Canon EF-mount cameras and covers full-frame image sensors. It can also be used with compatible APS-C Canon cameras.

Dust and moisture resistance

The L-series lens design includes sealing intended to provide resistance to dust and moisture when used under suitable conditions.

No optical image stabilisation
